MS Museum of Natural Science
The MMNS Foundation and MDWFP's award-winning Mississippi Museum of Natural Science needed guidance from someone with a tourism background to help them develop a tourism marketing strategy and act as a fractional chief marketing officer.
For 17+ years, I have consulted with and provided marketing services to:
Create the museum's group tour program.
Create the museum's marketing/public relations program and social media presence.
Write / manage MMNS and MMNS Foundation websites and all social networking sites’ content.
Write and manage the Museum Insider e-newsletters and annual reports.
Win awards including being named the "2014 Escape to the Southeast Travel Attraction of the Year" by the Southeast Tourism Society.
Coordinate the marketing section of a successful American Alliance of Museums Reaccreditation proposal.
Earn media in broadcast outlets, consumer publications, blogs, and media websites.
Establish a workflow, sales copy, and sales process for the MMNS Foundation’s Membership Program.
LeFleur Museum District
In 2013, I was contacted by the President/CEO of Visit Jackson to gauge interest in developing a partnership among four museums located within 1/4 mile of one another in Jackson, MS. They wanted a consultant with tourism AND museum/attraction marketing knowledge to guide the museums in their collaboration.
The purpose of the partnership would be to increase visitation from out-of-market and thereby increase economic impact for the city.
Along with one museum assistant director, we coordinated the creation of the LeFleur Museum District (LMD) resulting in positive media coverage, brand awareness, and growth in Jackson’s tourism product.
The LMD was recognized with a Partnership Award from the Southeast Tourism Society.
Today, the LMD is a thriving collaborative marketing endeavor between the four museums resulting in new events and cross-promotions such as the MS Science Fest (named Small Festival of the Year by the Mississippi Tourism Association) and the Spring Break Week of Wonder, which drive visitation to the District and revenue to the city from hotel and restaurant taxes.
Museum & DMO Branding
In existence since the late 1970s, the MMNS Foundation asked me to rebrand their organization with the goal of invigorating the Membership program. Working with the Board President, museum leadership, and a team of talented graphic artists, I managed the re-branding project from concept through execution including the launch of a new website.
For this brand re-design, we used the museum’s original 4-color palette along with the Foundation’s logo to connect Members with the museum. We chose photos in line with the museum’s desired imagery to show that the museum is a fun place for people to learn more about natural science. When possible, we choose photos that are diverse, bright, and show visitors engaging with each other, with staff, and with the exhibits.
Campaign elements include:
• New Website (www.mmnsfoundation.com or .org)
• New MMNSF Membership Application flyer
• Museum Elevator Wrap
• Banner Display Stands
• Point of Sale Flyer
• Social Media Posts

Promo Videos and Ads
I’ve helped launch 34+ special exhibits including scriptwriting, creative direction, and talent management for promotional videos and televison/streaming ads. Click read more for links to videos.
Jackson Convention Complex
The leaders of the new JCC contacted me for assistance with their Grand Opening event and media outreach. They needed someone with an understanding of tourism coupled with attraction marketing savvy since their goal was for the grand opening to be part exhibit and part community-wide event.
I worked alongside their public relations firm to coordinate public relations efforts and I provided consulting, copywriting, and special event management services including editing and production of a magazine insert for the daily newspaper.
The project met or exceeded all attendance and publicity goals.
Newsletters
I’ve written hundreds of print and email newsletters for my clients and employers - this is a small sample. I can work in almost any email platform including Constant Contact, Mailchimp, and Squarespace.
Website Copy & Content
The words on your website are even more important than how your website looks! Get copy that works to attract your ideal prospects and turn them into long-term customers. I also offer Squarespace website creation services.
Other Work
I’ve written copy/content and managed production for a wide variety of print and digital media projects.
